Painting, again!

Big excitement, Emmy passed her first level in swimming lessons!  Woo hoo!  She's well on her way to becoming a lifeguard!  Hee hee!

Today we painted baby E's big girl room.  The paint colour is called "Victorian Lace" by Benjamin Moore.  Love the colour as it is very pale - almost white in spots - but you can definitely tell it's pink!

My parents came up twice this week to help out with things.  Because there was wallpaper on the bottom half of the wall in her new room, my mom painted it with an oil based primer on Friday.  Good thing it was beautiful outside because we had the windows wide open; even with the paint being odor free!

Yesterday, we went to Derek & Annette's for a big brunch as Aunt Judy was in town from Saskatchewan.  There was about 15 people there, including baby E!  She was dressed in a purple tutu, she looked so cute.

Last night, hubby and I just chilled out.  We watched a movie downstairs in the basement with the fire on - the only problem was that we couldn't figure out how to turn it off!  Somehow we managed to, but we really need to read the directions about the remote control!

What a day!

Today we went for a walk around Joker's Hill in Newmarket.  I had baby E in a backpack and it was GREAT!  It was nice to get out with other mom's and just talk about babies and other fun stuff.  It's a great place to get advice.  They all knew each other from Stroller Mates which is the mall walking group. They meet Tuesday & Thursday so I think I might go - but it starts at 8.30am so I will have to be up early!

Things are fun these days!

Happy Hallowe'en...well, belated wishes!

I can't believe it's November 1st.  Where has the time gone.  I'm hanging out in front of the tv but I'm on the computer as well because tv is just so darn boring these days.  The only show I really, really like is "Hart of Dixie".

Baby E is doing well.  She suffered through an extreme bought of constipation; I've never seen anything as terrible as that.  She was straining so hard she was shaking.  Finally, she was able to pass it.  Thank god!

Other than that, life has been good for the little one.  We've had some fun these past couple of days hanging out with various people.  Last night she was a pumpkin and we took her to visit her Nana & Grandpa and her cousins in Oak Ridges.

Oh wait, yesterday was a tough day.  I was finishing stroller fitness and I had given her a baby mum-mum.  She managed to choke on it and I couldn't fish it out so I had to immediately flip her over on my arm and proceed to do infant choking.  It was terrible and brought me immediately back to the day we brought her back from the hospital when she turned a terrible shade of blue because she stopped breathing.  Oh the drama!

I'm now addicted to martha stewart craft punches.  I've got like 5 bids going on ebay and I've already succeeded with one.  Hopefully it will arrive soon!

On the mend!

I finally feel like I can say that we have, hopefully, turned the tide in this sickness.  Last night, she slept from about 7pm to 5.30am with one or two wake ups.  And she didn't have the vapourizer on

How can I still be tired?

Well, I'm sitting at my computer on Saturday night after having cleaned up, again, copious amounts of snot and puke!  Baby E was so tired and I think I made the pablum a bit too thick when she has a cold, so she puked it all up PLUS the milk - it was such a disaster we had to get the swifter wet jet out to mop the floor.  Pretty gross if I ask you!  And then she had the biggest poo ever - it went up her back and everything.  For all those parents out there, you know exactly what I am talking about.

Why don't parenting books prepare you for this?  I don't think parenting books do a good job of explaining all the "little" things that might pop up when you have your first child.  Like, really?  the poo is that colour and it's still healthy?

We popped E back in the bath (her second one today as she had another big one this morning) and then spent a couple of hours trying to get her back to bed.

Last night we were up from 1.30am to 4am trying to get her back to sleep.  It was the worst night to be up because this morning we had family portraits with the entire big C family.  We were worried that the younger generation wouldn't be able to handle more than 10 minutes but they showed us all wrong!  My sister-in-law gave me the cutest dress ever for E to wear - it was like a wedding dress!

Okay - off to bed!  

I'm going positive this time...

So I'm still tired but I'm going to try and be positive!  I think I get up to early to tend to baby E during the night.  I think if I let her soothe herself, she would be okay.  I just don't want to wake up hubby - what to do?!

Big cousin D is coming over today along with aunt & parents!  And I'm getting a costco hot dog!  Excellent!  This will be exciting - but must go and clean up the house!!!!

Off to vacuum!

Tired...

Last night Baby E had somewhat of a good night.  When she finally slept, she slept!  I tried to put her down at 7pm but she didn't want to go down.  I think she finally went down around 9.30pm - it was a trying couple of hours but luckily her father was home by then and could help out.

Now, though, hubby is sick and it's like having two babies in the house.  Does anyone else feel that way? Why do men make us suffer along with them?  When hubby gets sick, he never takes any medicine, "I can tough it out, Jill" - but really, can you?  I've finally convinced mine to at least gargle with salt water when he has a sore throat but getting him to take tylenol is like me winning the lottery - just not going to happen!

We usually go to Mother Goose on Thursday afternoons but I think we will be absent as she is still sneezing and yes, the copious amounts of snot are still there!

Wanted: Sleep

So baby E is now sleeping...I've resigned myself to the fact that I'll be up again tonight with her and will probably have to do a midnight feed or something like that.  Last night it was at 1.30am and then again at 5.30am.  Thanks to hubby for doing the 5.30am feed as I was exhausted from getting up at 11.30pm, 1.30am, 3.30am, 5.30am!

I'm excited to blog - this is so much fun and I know no one is going to be reading this but it's great to put down my memories of this unique time.  My mom bought me a journal but I rarely put pen to paper so this is a good compromise.  It also doesn't hurt that Kiwi is curled up in my arms while I type!

Oh, I hear baby E stirring - I'm off to get her!

Baby is sick!

I feel somewhat stressed today as baby E is sick and she's having a hard time settling down. I'm trying to stay positive but it's hard when I'm by myself. Hubby is out at a work function and I'm all alone! Not that it's too hard - E went down for a 2 hour nap so I can't complain but this is like the 5th day of Emmy not being herself.

And then there's the snot. Holy god, I haven't seen that much snot in my life! Every time she sneezes, there's another stringer of snot. You might be sitting there all grossed out, but if you're a mother or anyone who has been around a person who can't blow their nose, you know exactly what I am talking about.

Being on maternity leave is a challenge everyday to stay sane, to try and lose the baby weight and to just be present in the moment.
